3-1. Selection steps

There are four main steps involved in the selection and justification of projects.  These are:

  1. Identifying and evaluating needs and opportunities – some of these might originate from inside or outside the organization
  2. Develop the criteria by which the needs and opportunities will be evaluated – we discuss these more under selection models
  3. Gather the data and information for each need and opportunity -there should be a discussion of the underlying assumptions such as business environmental conditions
  4. Evaluate the needs and opportunities against the criteria – multiple individuals might be involved in this process
