Unit 3B. Leadership & the Project Manager

The materials in this Unit correspond to Chapter 4 of the textbook (Pinto).

The project manager is an individual with the overall responsibility for ensuring the success of the project. Most projects have only one manager though it is possible to have multiple project managers on a project.

Before we discuss the characteristics needed to be a successful project manager, first let’s look at the major responsibilities of a project manager. The project manager has three main responsibilities:

1. Responsibility toward the client/customer/the organization (internal projects).

2. Responsibility toward the project

3. Responsibility toward the project team
